Steps to Fix a Torn Leather Like a Pro
Step 1: Take off the leather
As you need to fix the torn leather from the back of it, so first you need to do is to take off the leather from whatever place it is on.
Step 2: Marking
Mark a rectangular area around the tear such that the tear is at the center of that area.
Step 3: Spreading Filling over the Leather Back
With the help of spatulas, you need to spread the leather filler like spreading butter on the bread. Make the spread nice and fine while avoiding filling the actually torn portion.
Step 4: Placing Leather Repair Cloth
Cut the leather repair cloth according to the size of the marked area and place it firmly on the marked area. The cloth would start absorbing the filling. You can randomly press the cloth to make it settle well. This would make your filler cure properly.
Step 5: Curing
Let the work dry properly. It would take about 12 hours for the filling to cure properly.
Step 6: Flipping the Leather / Putting Leather Back on
All the work on the back of the leather has been done. Now you need to flip the other side of the leather on the top. Suppose the leather was over a cushion, seat, or anything else. You need to replace that leather back over it. In this way, Leather would mold back to the desired shape.
Step 7: Filling Front Tear Pocket
A pocket would have appeared at the torn part of the leather. Now, you must spread the leather repair filling in the pocket using a spatula. Close the pocket such that you make a groove at the cavity, which will be covered with the filler later.
Step 8: Filling the Cavities Left Behind
You might have observed that the original leather would not completely cover the pocket and there would be a cavity left behind. This cavity is due to missing leather pieces. Again, you need to fill all the cavities using the spatulas. Make it nice and fine.
Step 9: Curing
Now left the work area to cure over time. It might take about 12 hours again.
Step 10: Smoothing the Surface
Now feel the surface with your hand. If there is any rough area or extra material, use 600-grade sandpaper and rub it over the area. Make sure that you don’t press the sandpaper downwards and that your motion remains horizontal.
Step 11: Dying the Filling
Now you need to dye the white filling according to the original leather color. Place a few drops of the dye over the sponge and coat a layer of paint over the filling. Let the paint dry. You can use the dryer to speed up the process.
You need to make a total of 3 coats of dye. In the third coat, you must also blend the area around the tear.
Step 12: Finishing
For finishing and recreating leather shine over the repaired area, you need to use Leather sealer spray. Take a brand-new sponge and spray a few clicks of the sealer over the sponge. Wipe the sponge over the repaired area and the area around it.

Through these 12 easy and straightforward steps, you would not only repair the torn leather along with its leather grace and shine but would also save a lot of money. We hope that you have learned a lot and fixed your leather tear.
