If you are feeling helpless that you cannot wear your favorite jeans because their zipper has been damaged, then you can easily learn to fix a jeans zipper through this article.
I have divided this article into four different cases. Each case deals with a different zipper problem. So you can jump right away to your relevant case. Also, I have illustrated pictures to make the steps much clear.
So, here are 3 different methods for 3 different cases to fix a jeans zipper.
Method 1: Replacing Missing Teeth of the Zipper
If the missing toots are much away from the bottom end, then there are only two ways left. You can either completely replace the zipper or add missing teeth. As replacing the complete zipper is very easy, we will only explain replacing missing teeth here.
Step 1: Taking off Some Extra Teeth
With the help of a plier, take off the required number of teeth from the extra zipper.
Step 2: Burning Loose Strands
To remove the rough strands coming out from the empty teeth area, use a lighter flame to burn those loose strands.
Step 3: Replacing the Missing Zipper Teeth
Now place the teeth onto the empty teeth area. Make sure that you maintain alignment and proper distance between teeth.
With the help of a plier, press the legs of the teeth so that they are fixed to their position.
You have successfully replaced the missing teeth of your jeans. However, you can only add missing teeth only if you have extra zipper-compatible teeth.
Method 2: Fixing Jeans Zipper that has Gone off Track
Step 1: Removing Top Stop from Zipper
Use pliers to remove the top stops. Pinch the top stop, as shown in the image, and it will start getting loose. Take out the tip stops on both sides. Don’t throw them away, as they are to be reinstalled later.
Step 2: Removing Zipper Head
Now take out a couple of teeth from both sides as well. The method will be the same as taking off the top stops.
Then slide the zipper head to the top to remove it.
Step 3: Re-engaging the Teeth & Zipper Head
Now reengage the zipper teeth of both sides one by one from the bottom.
Putting the slider back on the closed zip so that it re-engages the teeth. To put the slider back, first, you need to put one side of the zipper into the slider mouth and then the other.
If some of the teeth have been disengaged during the struggle to put the zipper head back, engage them again after putting on the zipper head.
Now pull the zipper head a bit down, and it will get right on the track.
Step 4: Replacing Top Stop
Finally, you need to put the top stop back. First, plate the top stop at the top end of the teeth. Then through the plier, squeeze it. The top stop will be fixed in its position.
Method 3: Fixing Lose Zipper Head of Jeans
Step 1: Pressing Zipper Head
Take a plier and press both sides of the zipper head. Make sure that you don’t press the head with too much force. Otherwise, your zip will start jamming.
Now move the zipper head up and down to check if it zips and unzips correctly.
Step 3: Greasing
Now with cotton but you can grease your zipper teeth. This will make sure that your zipper moves smoothly.
