Some of the people have asked us how to square up a quilt block. So in this section, we will present a step-by-step procedure to square up your quilt blocks with pictorial representations accurately.
Things you need
- Cutting mat
- Square quilt ruler
- Roller cutter
- Quilted blocks (I will be using a quilting block of 10″x10″)
Steps to square up quilt blocks
Step 1: Calculate the Diagonal Center
Calculate the diagonal for your quilt block that would be half of your square block length. For my 10”x10” built block, the diagonal will be 5”. Locate your diagonal point on your quilt ruler.
Place your quilt ruler over the quilt block such that the diagonal point is placed at the center of the quilt block.
Step 2: Trim Edges
You would see some excessive parts coming out from the top and right sides of the scale. Cut those excessive fabrics using a rotatory cutter.
Step 3: Rotate & Trim Edges
Now rotate your guilt block by 180°. So your untrimmed sides would be exposed.
Again place the ruler with the diagonal point matching the center of the quilt block and cut off the excessive parts of the quilt blocks.
