You can use different types of knots or stitches of lanyards in different accessories like a keyring, bracelets, hook ropes, etc. the most simpler and common knot of them is a box knot.
In this section, I will show you how to make a box stitch lanyard using any type of rope. For this section, I will be using a pair of paracords.
Step-by-Step Methods to Start a Box Stitch Lanyard
- Lay down your ropes on the desk such that they intersect each other at their midpoints
- Now fold the one loose end of the lower cord over the upper cord – making a loop.
- Then fold the second loose end of the lower cord over the upper cord – making another loop.
- Now fold and pass one loose end of the upper cord through the opposite side loop while skipping the first loop.
- Then fold and pass the second loose end of the upper cord through the opposite side loop while skipping the first loop.
- Now stretch all four ends of the loose know to tighten the knot.
Finishing the Box Stitch Lanyard
Your first box stitch is done. Now you can repeat the above steps to replicate the stitches – thus making a chain, as long as you like.
Also, you will notice that on the back side of the knot, there is a loop that you can use in creative ways to hook things with it. Like you can hook a key ring with this loop to make a key chain.
